Jerry Taylor
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jerry A. Taylor is (as of 2006) the City Manager of Tuttle, Oklahoma.
Taylor gained some notoriety in technical circles in 2006 after he wrote a series of e-mails to the developers of CentOS, a distribution of GNU/Linux operating system. Mr. Taylor erroneously complained that the OS Vendor had hacked the city's website and made it inaccessible.
During the misanthropic tirade by the self-described "computer literate", Mr. Taylor displayed a lack of understanding of basic computing application and theory. In the exchange, Mr. Taylor's vitriol laced messaged displayed his inability to disambiguate the concepts of ISP, OS, Web Server and Web Hosting Service.
Mr. Taylor disregarded attempts of aid from his victim. The victim, Mr. Johnny Hughes attempted to convince Taylor that it was simply a misconfiguration by their website's host and nothing to do with CentOS. Undeterred, Taylor threatened to call the FBI.
After finally realizing the hosting provider of the city's website was at fault, Taylor still blamed CentOS, saying that with swifter help it "could have been resolved a lot quicker."
It has been suggested that being asked a stupid question, in an accusational tone, where one cannot effect a solution should be referred to as being "Jerry Taylored" or "tuttled".
Biography
Taylor earned a Masters in Business Administration from Averett University in Danville, Virginia.
Taylor worked for 22 years with E-Systems as a program manager, 17 of those years working on a classified government contract in Virginia. Taylor was selected city manager of Tuttle in August 2005, after an absence of a manager for almost two years.
